Chrissy Metz Weight Loss – Everything You Want to Know

Chrissy Metz Weight Loss Journey

As Kate Pearson in the renowned NBC family drama series This Is Us, Chrissy Metz has touched the hearts of audiences worldwide. The character’s struggles with her weight have resonated with many people, most of all to her portrayer herself.

For her breakout role, Chrissy has earned nominations for the Primetime Emmy and the Golden Globe Awards. She has also starred in the movie Sierra Burgess is a Loser and had a role in American Horror Story: Freak Show. She is a singer for the band Chrissy and The Vapors, and is a published author with her book This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today.

Chrissy Metz’ Weight Gain

Chrissy was chubby as a little girl despite being active and into sports. She recalls that at an early age, she had to be mindful of what she ate. “My friends could eat whatever they wanted to, but I knew that as a kid if I ate certain things I would totally gain weight,” she said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.“I had to be really cognizant of what I ate.”

Later on, she turned to food for comfort, having always associated it with love. At 11 years old, she went to Weight Watchers and was the only kid in the program.

Chrissy Metz’ Yo-Yo Dieting

Just like many people who struggle with weight issues, Chrissy has also done yo-yo dieting in the past. Early in her career, she lost 50 pounds but became so depressed that she gained double the weight, and ended up at 400 pounds.

Yo-yoing, also known as weight cycling, is the process of suddenly losing weight through a diet, only to gain it back fast, then dieting again. These crash diets are almost always ineffective because of the weight gained back and may come with side effects such as an even higher body fat percentage, muscle loss, and increased risks for diabetes and heart diseases.

Instead, it’s best to stick to a sustainable lifestyle plan that encompasses a well-balanced diet, regular exercise, and getting enough rest. The weight loss will be more gradual, but better and even more beneficial to your health in the long run.

Chrissy Metz’ Diet for Weight Loss

When Chrissy got cast in This Is Us, her contract had a stipulation that weight loss would be part of Kate’s journey as she developed as a character. She utilized this condition to motivate herself, develop a healthier relationship with food, and not focus on the numbers. She gradually lost 100 pounds in five months by sticking to a 2,000-calorie diet and walking for 20 minutes a day, eventually moving up to running.

For her diet, Chrissy swapped out food that didn’t have nutritional value by eating protein-rich options. She also stopped drinking sugary drinks like soda and shakes in favor of fresh fruit juices and lime water.

“I want to have a fit, healthy body and not be put in a box,” she has said of her weight loss journey. “I don’t want to be limited by anything.”

“Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it’s purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren’t attractive—because I think they’re awesome and sexy,” Chrissy had elaborated.

The actress also practices meditation and self-care to round off her wellness efforts.

The takeaway from Chrissy Metz’s weight loss story is that sustainable lifestyle changes are the key to losing weight in a healthy way. It takes a lot of patience because overnight results will not happen, but taking care of your body will get you a long way and be more effective than any other crash diet.
