Jorge Garcia Weight Loss Journey
For six seasons, Jorge Garcia was the much-needed comic relief in the hit ABC television series Lost. His character Hurley was always down on his luck, having won the lottery but ended up in a plane crash that serves as the show’s premise.
He earned two American Latino Media Arts awards for Best Supporting Actor. After Lost, he landed roles in Once Upon a Time and Alcatraz before becoming a main cast member of Hawaii Five-O. Jorge also does stand-up comedy and has launched a podcast, Kaiju Podcast.
Jorge Garcia’s Weight Gain
Jorge struggled with food addiction and was also drinking regularly. His weight eventually ballooned to 400 pounds. When he was cast in Lost, the show’s producers asked him to lose some weight. He sought the help of nutrition experts and fitness coaches and went on the “Nooch Diet”.
What is Nooch Diet?
Nooch is a deactivated nutritional yeast that is said to have a lot of health benefits because of its high amounts of protein and Vitamin B-12, making it popular among vegans all over the world.
One of the benefits of nooch is weight loss. The protein helps you feel full while eating less, so you consume fewer calories. Protein is also good when you’re working out for weight loss, as it helps to repair and strengthen muscle tissue, which burns through excess fat stored in the body.
Nooch is versatile and tasty, making it easy to work into a meal. It is often used as a healthier substitute for parmesan cheese, which helps to satisfy cravings and reduce consumption of high cholesterol, fat, and the extra calories found in extra cheese.
Jorge Garcia’s Change of Lifestyle for Weight Loss
By incorporating nutritional yeast in his diet and pairing it with working out 2-3 hours in a day, Jorge lost 30 pounds. However, he was said to be frustrated at the slow rate of his weight loss, and he reverted to his destructive eating and drinking habits, gaining the extra pounds back.
With concerns from his family and friends about the increased health risks that came with his weight, Jorge made a second attempt at losing weight, this time overhauling his lifestyle. He has said, “I can afford to not live on rum and burritos and take better care of myself.”
Instead of just nutritional yeast, Jorge went on a full plant-based diet. He replaced greasy food with fresh fruits and vegetables and made sure to stay low-carb. He also opted to prepare his own meals, which is a better option than eating at restaurants or ordering takeaway because it gives you control over what goes into your food, making sure that it’s all healthy.
Jorge quit alcohol and started working out regularly. He paired heart-pumping cardio exercises such as jogging and running with strength-building body-weight routines like arm circles, push-ups, and sit-ups.
Since starting a better and more sustainable routine, the actor has lost over 100 pounds.
While still a big man, he is less at a risk for diseases such as heart problems and diabetes.
Jorge Garcia’s weight loss journey speaks a lot about how shedding excess pounds shouldn’t be rushed. Diet fads, like relying solely on nutritional yeast, may spark frustrations about a slower rate of weight loss, which may often lead to gaining the weight back faster.
By adopting a better lifestyle of healthy eating and regular exercising, you will lose weight slowly but surely, and actually keep the pounds off.
