Celine Dion Weight Loss Journey
As the singer of power hits such as “The Power of Love” and “Because You Loved Me”, Celine Dion has one of the most famous voices in the world. The Canadian recording artist, who has sold over 200 million albums in English and French, has also dabbled in movie soundtracks like “My Heart Will Go On” for Titanic, and “Ashes” for Deadpool.
Her talents have been recognized through the numerous awards she received throughout her career, including the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards, and the JUNOS. She was awarded the Order of the Companion of Canada in 2013.
In recent years, Celine has been performing at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for a residency, with her shows earning rave reviews. With the demands of performing, she has maintained her naturally-svelte figure for years. However, in 2016 she sparked fears of ill health and an eating disorder with her dramatic weight loss. Photos surfaced online depicting an even thinner body with gaunt cheeks and prominent collarbones.
Celine Dion’s Weight Loss Exercise Plan
Celine has repeatedly shot down the body-shaming she got from netizens and has credited her slimmer physique to a newfound passion for dancing. Even with nightly performances, she still takes the time to practice ballet four times a week.
In an interview with The Sun published in 2019, she was quoted as saying, “I’m doing this for me. I want to feel strong, beautiful, feminine, and sexy.”
Despite its soft and refined movements, ballet is actually very intensive and is said to burn twice the calories compared to a contemporary dance practice. It builds and tones muscle as you work on supporting and lifting your own body weight while you execute the moves, especially when you work to progress to en pointe. A regular ballet routine is thus very effective for losing weight, which is what happened to Celine.
Besides ballet, the singer also works out regularly. While she loves going on a stationary bike, Celine does specific movements to be performance-ready to tone her shoulder blades. This, she says, helps hold her neck which is helpful when she sings. She works with a physiotherapist to make sure her spine is aligned.
Celine Dion’s Healthy Diet
For diet, Celine is not necessarily strict with her food intake and even allows herself dessert, She doesn’t skip breakfast, and opts to start the day right with a cup of coffee and a croissant.
She incorporates vegetables in her meals, whether it’s a side of fried cauliflower or a vichyssoise—a thick soup made with boiled and pureéd vegetables and cream. Her specialty dish is Sfihas, a kind of a Mediterranean meat pie, the recipe of which she shared in Loukoumi’s Celebrity Cookbook.
As for snacks, Celine munches on fresh fruits like berries. Occasionally, she loves to indulge in junk food. She has been photographed eating hotdogs from a stand in New York City and wearing couture while she was at it.
Celine Dion proves that even naturally-thin people need exercise in order to get toned and be fit. Even with a slim frame, it’s important to build lean muscle and strength, both of which in her case help sustain several evenings of high-energy shows in Las Vegas in a week alone. But even then, Celine is not beyond enjoying the best things in life, and allows herself a rich and filling pastry or even street food when she feels like it.
Striking the right balance between working out frequently and enjoying delicious meals is something she has managed, and these days Celine is healthier and fitter than ever.
